Reformation Celebration

October 31 is Reformation Day, when we Lutherans remember how God proclaimed the good news of the free forgiveness of sins clearly and distinctly through Martin Luther and other reformers in the 1500s. We will celebrate Reformation Day on October 25 this year. Please join us for a German-style meal that evening from 5:00-6:30 and for a Reformation Vespers service at 7:00 pm.

Voters’ Assembly October 18

10:00 am

Zion’s quarterly voters’ assembly will be held Sunday, October 18 after the church service. The agenda includes election of officers and adoption of a budget. If you plan to attend, please bring finger food to share prior to the meeting.

Missions Month and Habitat Events

September 13, Worship at Dunnegan Park (10:30 am), Rev. Allen Geil preaching. Potluck to follow.

September 19, Dedication of the Habitat for Humanity House in Fair Play (tentatively at 2 pm).

September 20, Rev. Eric Tessaro of Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield preaching. Theme: The Nigerian Nightmare is our Nightmare Too.

September 27, Rev. David Loy preaching.

October 4, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Sunday. Rev. David Andrus of Lutheran Blind Missions preaching. Rev. Andrus is himself blind. Potluck to follow.

August Events

We have several events coming up during August here at Zion.
August 9–Cookie Fellowship after church. Please bring food for the food bank.
August 16–The children will sing VBS songs during the service.
August 23–We will sing at local long-term care facilities beginning at 2 pm.
August 30–Special voters assembly after church.

Zion to Partner with Thrivent, HfH to Build a House

On Saturday, April 4 Habitat for Humanity of Polk County will break ground on their 2009 house in Fair Play. This year, members of Zion Lutheran Church are partnering with Habitat for Humanity, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and the Missouri Plains Chapter of Thrivent to provide funding and manpower. We are pleased to reflect Christ’s love to the world by taking part in such an important cause.

Holy Week 2009

Holy Week 2009 begins on Sunday, April 5 with Palm Sunday. During this week of special devotion, we remember our Savior’s sufferings and death on behalf of sinful humanity. We invite you to join us for our Holy Week and Easter services:

Community Meals Have Ended

On April 1, Zion held our last community meal. It was a joy to provide meals for members of the community who are in need. We served anywhere from 20 to 40 community members each evening, in addition to church members. We will continue to find ways to offer support to those in need in the community.

During this time of economic hardship, Zion Lutheran Church, 600 East Aldrich Road, Bolivar, would like to open their doors each Wednesday evening from February 11 through April 1 to anyone in the community who is in need of a free meal. Time: 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.

Thanksgiving Eve Service

Zion Lutheran Church will hold its annual Thanksgiving Eve Service at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, November 26. All offerings given at the service will be donated to the Bolivar Area Ministerial Alliance Food Bank. Please join us as we give thanks to God with hearts and hands and voices.

Ladies Guild Bazaar and Luncheon a Success

Zion Lutheran Church Ladies Guild Bazaar and Luncheon was Saturday, November 8. The event brought in about $2000. The hand-quilted quilt was drawn for at 3:00 pm, and Victor Wainscott was the winner this year.

A big thank you to everyone who helped with the event or donated baked goods, crafts, or other items. We also appreciate the variety of old Bibles and other books loaned for display.
